Vijay Gokhale

Vijay Gokhale spent nearly four decades in the Indian Foreign Service and retired as foreign secretary in 2020. He worked on matters related to China for a significant portion of his diplomatic career, including serving as ambassador in 2016–17. He has authored several books on China, including The Long Game: How the Chinese Negotiate with India, which won the Ramnath Goenka Award for Best Non-Fiction Book for 2021. He lives in Pune with his spouse, Vandana, and devotes his time to teaching and research on China.
