When the world becomes your teacher, every moment is a lesson.

At twelve, Joy is ready for a break—from school timetables, homework, and growing up too fast. What begins as a two-week family vacation across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia soon transforms into something far richer: a journey of learning, laughter, and self-discovery.

Accompanied by his culturally curious mother and philosophically driven father, who believe that travel is the best form of education, Joy steps into a world where classrooms are replaced by bustling markets, coral beaches, and quiet temples. From deciphering new languages and savouring unfamiliar cuisines to learning patience in long queues and embracing diverse cultures, every encounter becomes a guide.

Through humour, observation, and reflection, Joy realizes that true wisdom lies not only in reading books or visiting places, but also in connecting with people. By the end of the trip, he understands that across borders and beliefs, human hearts beat with the same emotions, desires, and dreams.

Tathagat Anand Srivastava lives in Dehradun and is a student of Class XII in St. Joseph’s Academy. He started writing at the tender age of seven and had his first book published in 2019, when he was only ten. Oriental Wisdom is his third book.

He loves reading a wide range of books, both fiction and non-fiction, and this diversity is reflected in his writing. His other interests include singing, playing the guitar, watching movies, and public speaking.
